Evelyn Ruth Gehm, age 95, of Northville, Michigan, a woman of profound faith was welcomed Home into the arms of Jesus on Friday, August 30, 2024. Evelyn was preceded in death by dear husband of 43 years, John "Jack" Gehm. Loving mother of late John (Julie) Gehm, late infant baby daughter, Kathie (late Keith) McDaniel, Jeff Gehm, and Dave (Elaine) Gehm. Beloved grandmother of Hannah (Eric) Mosterd, Rebecca Gehm, Peter Gehm, Jacob Gehm, Paul (Tracy) Gehm, John (Stephanie) Gehm, Rachel (Jared) Siemen, and Rebecca Gehm. Proud great-grandmother of Sebastian, Ben, Ezra, Ella, Flora, Georgie, Wilhelmina, Isaac, Elior, and Phoebe. Cherished twin sister of late Eleanor (Orv) Melcher. She will be greatly missed by loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Evelyn was born July 30, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois. She was a proud graduate of Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, Minnesota, and Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois, where she met and fell in love with Jack. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and impacted countless children's lives with over 30 years in the classroom.
Evelyn lived her faith boldly, serving at Guardian Lutheran in Dearborn for over 60 years, leading Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS), was an active Stephen Minister, grief-share counselor, and participated in the choir. She also served as principal of Guardian School during a time of transition. With a true servant's heart, she poured herself into the lives of others.
Her passions in life included family, serving others, developing meaningful relationships, and traveling the world. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for the love she spread to so many. She actively lived her favorite verse, Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."
A visitation for Evelyn will be held Friday, September 6, from 3:00-7:00pm at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd, Livonia, MI 48152. An in state will be held the following day, Saturday, September 7, at 10:00am at Guardian Lutheran Church, 24544 Cherry Hill St, Dearborn, MI 48124, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00am. She will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory are appreciated to Guardian Lutheran Church Music/Choir Fund or Wellspring Lutheran Services.
