Doug Patton, age 69, of Novi, Michigan passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025. Loving husband of 44 years to Suzanne. Beloved father of Amanda (Jeffrey) Hulbert and Ryan (Thomas Qualls) Patton. Proud grandpa of Miles and Cora Hulbert.
Doug was preceded in passing by his parents, John and Geneva Patton.
Doug was raised in Troy, Illinois. He attended Bradley University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1977 and later was awarded his MBA in 1984. He began his career at Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois, from 1978 to 1986. Upon his family's move to Michigan, he began his tenure at DENSO International America, where he was serving as Executive Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer when he retired in 2019.
In addition to his working career, Doug was also connected to his engineering community. He was heavily involved with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), serving as a member for many years and as President in 2017. He was recognized as a Fellow by the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD). He worked to improve the quality of education for students as a member of the board for the DENSO Foundation, where he also acted as president from 2011 to 2018.
Doug was known for being an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed attending spring training games held in Jupiter, Florida every year for over twenty years. He had a green thumb, bringing life to various plants in his garden and lawn. Most importantly, he adored being a grandpa.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 8, from 4:00-8:00pm at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd, Livonia, MI 48152. An in state will be held Wednesday, April 9, from 9:30-10:00am at Hope Lutheran Church, 39200 W 12 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills, MI 48331, followed by a funeral service beginning at 10:00am.
