Passed away on October 21 at 1:16 AM and made his way to heaven. Colonie John Melancon (CJ or Jay) born on March 9, 1933 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was predeceased by his wife of 25 years Kay Janet Melancon, and his parents Melvin and Inez Melancon. Jay was their only child. Jay was a high school graduate of New Iberia High School, and a college graduate of Northeast Louisiana State University where he played football and played coronet in the marching band. Jay was in the national coast guard and traveled to Havana, Cuba. His career in education spanned over 40 years both as a public educator, football coach, and an administrator in Redford Union, Byron, and Brighton, Michigan. Jay was an avid golfer. But many people didn’t know he was an excellent bowler before he took up golfing… often scoring nearly 300! He also played poker and enjoyed swimming at LA fitness in his later years. He loved football and was very disappointed that in his life time the Lions never made it to the Super Bowl. He also loved his friends at Leo’s Coney Island where he often dined. After Kay passed away Jay dedicated his life in service of the Lord and was always as generous as he could be. He spent time daily in The Word and studied the Bible with his men’s group.
He is survived by Kim Blackburn and his grandson Jobe Bobee, granddaughter Hannah Bobee and his great granddaughter Olivia, grandson Ethan Bobee, granddaughter Abigail Modes, her husband Robert Modes and his great grandchildren Zoey and Madeline, and grandson Jared Blackburn; He is also survived by Denise Csatari and her husband Dave, and granddaughter, Rachel Reist and her husband Jesse, great granddaughters Lillian and Charlotte, and Granddaughter Emma Csatari. Further he is survived by his former wife Beverlee Melancon, his daughter Laura Snodgrass and her husband William, Jay’s son Neil Melancon and his wife Christine, grandchildren Mason Arbury, Nicole Melancon, Misty Potter, and Brendan Semperger, great-grand children Olivia and Jaxon, step grandsons Warren Arbury, and Austin Snodgrass.
