Brian Motter, age 80, of Livonia, Michigan passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Loving husband of 58 years to LaVerne. Beloved father of Elena (Bill) Carr. Dear brother of Craig (late Sharon) Motter and brother-in-law of Louise (Michael) Kenny. Proud uncle of Michael Jr. (Amy) Kenny, Andrew (Shana) Kenny, Peter (Ashley) Kenny, and Christi (Rob) Phillips. He is also survived by three special cousins and grand nieces and nephews. Brian's family would like to thank his caregiver Jay Gonzales for the wonderful care provided to Brian. He will be especially missed by fur babies Lulu and Abby.
Brian graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1961 where he lettered in basketball, baseball, and football, and was inducted into the Catholic Central Athletic Hall of Fame. He followed in his father Alex Motter's footsteps, who was also an athlete and played on a Stanley Cup team for the Detroit Red Wings. He went on to attend Niagara University on a basketball scholarship where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was awarded a master's degree in business from the University of Detroit. He also earned a teaching certificate and a specialist degree. He started his teaching career in Detroit at Detroit Public Schools. He moved his way up from working as a teacher to an assistant principal and principal for 18 years. His next 20 years were spent at Redford Union School District as an assistant principal and principal, and later became Superintendent of the district. He was truly loved by students, parents, and fellow teachers. He took pride in knowing each student's name in the school he was working in and attended every sporting event representing the district. He was the epitome of an excellent educator and man. Many of his former students and teachers credit their success to him and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for Brian will be held Thursday, March 14, from 4:00-8:00pm at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd., Livonia, MI 48152, with a rosary at 7:00pm. An in state will be held Friday, March 15, at 10:30am at St Colette Catholic Church, 17600 Newburgh Rd., Livonia, MI 48152, followed by a funeral mass beginning at 11:00am.
