Bessie L. "Betty" Barclay

Bessie Louise "Betty" Barclay, passed away July 18, 2019 in Plymouth. Bessie was the first of four children born to Arnold and Bessie Boyak, in Detroit. Prior to marriage, Mrs. Barclay worked in the Administrative Offices of Kresge Corporation. She enjoyed her work and the downtown Detroit environment. She met John Barclay in Detroit at a social club known as the Hikers Club. They married on April 25, 1959. Later they added their son, James to their family. As a homemaker in Livonia, Betty enjoyed her membership in the Livonia Garden Club and she created beautiful woven baskets for friends and family. Her expertise and creativeness in basket making was unparalleled. As a devout member of the Nardin Park United Methodist Church, Betty participated in and helped run the annual Christmas Boutique. She was also a great help and supporter of the Methodist Youth Fellowship at Nardin Park. With her husband John coaching and son James playing, Betty was a big supporter of Livonia Youth Soccer activities. Betty held a close and special relationship with her granddaughter, Mackenzie. Betty and John enjoyed their visits and trips together with son, Jim, his wife Kim and granddaughter Mackenzie. She and John also developed a special relationship to their neighbors, the Boudreau family and their children.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, John; son, James (Kim) Barclay; granddaughter, Mackenzie; sister, Patricia (Dick) Hill, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her brother, Arnold (Doris) Boyak and sister, Phyllis Jean Boyak.

Friends may visit Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia. On Sunday, July 21, 2019 friends may visit from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services at 1:00 p.m., at Nardin Park United Methodist Church, 29887 West Eleven Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI.
