Beloved wife of the late Robert. Loving mother of Robert Jr. (Barbara), Sandra Meyer, and Pamela Sirko. Cherished grandmother of Adrienne, Shawn, Andrea and Chene. Great grandmother of six and great-great grandmother of five. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by siblings Henry, Mary, Elizabeth, Helen and Emma.
Anna was born of European immigrant parents and grew up on a farm in Michigan along with her many siblings. Her mother passed away when Anna was small, but she was raised by her father and loving stepmom. Anna worked hard helping on the farm. She loved school, reading, and spelling. Her competitive spirit led her to become the Detroit News spelling bee champion for her school. Anna even raised her two daughters to become school spelling bee champs year after year.
In 1940 Anna met Robert who was from the city. They were married in 1941 and lived in Detroit. After a short while Robert was called for duty in World War II. Anna gave birth to their son while Robert was still in the army. In years to come they also had two daughters.
As home loving as she was, Anna had a heart for adventure. After a 1962 space orbit, Anna said that she, too, would also love to orbit the earth like John Glenn if given the chance! She did not get the opportunity for space travel, but she and Robert took a trip out west and one to Hawaii. They and their children also vacationed each summer in northern Michigan and created many beautiful memories of their fun-filled trips.
Anna devoted her life to her family and friends and to caring for others. Because of her loving nature, even extended family knew her as “Grandma” and were on her list of treasured grandchildren. She never forgot birthdays, anniversaries, or family celebrations and loved sending cards, especially to the little ones.
Anna made the best applesauce and chocolate chip cookies that any grandma could possibly make! Her family also looked forward to her holiday dinners which almost always included mashed potatoes and gravy and apple or blueberry pie. She so loved cooking for her family any day of the week and they loved her for it!
“Two steps from an Angel“, “A kind and noble lady” are phrases recently used to describe Anna. She truly was a humble servant of the Lord, never judgmental, always forgiving, and kind. The way she raised her children and lived her life was truly a blessing to her family and all who knew her. There was always a special innocent sweetness about her that glowed and inspired others to share their own goodness. Now the Lord has received another true angel into His Kingdom to help Him guide and light the way for us.
Anna, Mom, Grandma, we miss you so much with all our broken hearts, yet know you are safe in Heaven always. If you are able, please watch over us with your constant caring as you always have. We pray for you also to find the peace and rest you so deserve. Thank you for sharing your beautiful life and love with us, we were and still are truly, truly inspired and blessed. You will be forever and ever in our hearts.
