She was born March 30, 1931 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to the late Ervin and Caroline (Peterson) Augustine. She married Kenneth M Schmidt in May of 1958 and they shared 62 years together before he preceded her in death in 2020. Much loved mother to Kathy (Bill) Weaver, Karen (Dan) Rose and Greg (Angie) Schmidt. Cherished grandmother to Matthew (Karen), Courtney, Hannah, Andrew (Ronda) and Meghan, sister to June Little, nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by sister Eleanor Hill and brother James Augustine.
Alberta lived her childhood and much of her adult life in the Akron, Ohio area. She graduated from North High School in Akron and attended secretarial school to become a legal secretary. After marriage, she was a caring mother to her three children and a dedicated volunteer for church and school committees and activities. She later returned to work and retired from civil service with the City of Livonia working with the Livonia City Council office. After retirement, she and Ken moved to northern Michigan and enjoyed life at a lake home near Gladwin. Alberta was known for her delicious baking skills, especially her Christmas cookies, which she generously shared with others. She spent many hours sewing, quilting, reading and gardening. She and her husband were also long-time residents of Henry Ford Village and members of Hope Lutheran Church, both in Dearborn, MI.
A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she lived a life of faith and service to others and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for both Alberta and Kenneth Schmidt on October 9th at 11 am with visitation to begin at 10 am at Hope Lutheran Church, 3640 Madison St., Dearborn, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hope Lutheran Church, Dearborn, MI (hlcdearborn.org).
