Stephen Z. Schwartz was the only child born to Joseph and Gertrude Schwartz of Kearny, NJ. At the age of seven, they moved to Brookdale Gardens apartments in Bloomfield, NJ, where his parents continued to live for over 50 years. He attended Bloomfield College, where he became president of his senior class and earned a B.A. degree in business. At the age of 20, he met the love of his life, Lynne Kutcher (daughter of Max and Gertrude Kutcher of Verona, NJ) at a local pool dance, and in 1970, at the age of 25, they married and moved to Cedar Grove, NJ. He earned an MBA degree from Rutgers University in 1973 and promptly moved to Livingston, NJ. Together Stephen and Lynne had two children, Andrew born in 1975 and Jaimee born in 1978.
Steven worked as a Certified Public Accountant and Controller for several companies until his retirement in 2013, and then continued his own private tax practice out of the family home until this year. In his personal life, Steve was a devoted husband, a loving father to his son Andrew and wife Jennifer, and his daughter Jaimee and husband Sam, a proud grandfather to five wonderful grandchildren Justin, Eli, Avery, Madelyn, and Brandon, and a loyal friend to many. Although he was an only child, he viewed his cousins and his wife’s siblings and their spouses (Judy, Stevan, Norman, and Richard) as his own siblings. In retirement he enjoyed several hobbies such as fishing and weekly games including Bridge, Poker, and Canasta with his dear friends whom he also considered family. He will be remembered by many for his warmth, kindness, sharp wit, sense of humor, and generosity.
