On Thursday, April 18, 2019, there will be a visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mount Pleasant Ave, Livingston, NJ 07039. A memorial service is being planned for May 17, 2019 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Islami Auditorium. Details will be forthcoming.
Dr. Mulgaonkar was one of the preeminent professionals in transplantation in the United States. He was instrumental in the rapid growth of transplantation and championed the development of the Living Donor Transplant Institute. He was a dynamic leader who has cared for thousands of kidney transplant recipients since the 1970s. He is largely responsible for the success of the RWJ Barnabas Health Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division being one of the most highly regarded programs in the United States. Dr. Mulgaonkar was a past president of the Transplant Society of New Jersey, and was twice named “New Jersey Transplant Professional of the Year.” He was also named “Transplant Physician of the Year” in 1996. His major research interests included transplant immunology, clinical trials of newer immunosuppressants, and allograft thrombosis. He led clinical research trials in the use of many novel immunosuppressants, and published over 100 scientific papers in peer review journals. Dr. Mulgaonkar was a member of a number of professional societies including the American Society of Nephrology, the American Medical Association, The Renal Physicians Association, The Transplant Society of New Jersey, and the United Network for Organ Sharing. He was also on the advisory board of the New Jersey Organ and Tissue Sharing Network.
Devoted husband of Ujwala Mulgaonkar; loving father of Rohan Mulgaonkar and his wife Ambar; beloved brother of Alaka Phatarphod and her husband Dilip, and Ranjit Mulgaonkar and his wife Dana; dear brother-in-law of Umesh Padval and his wife Madhavi, Mahesh Padval and his wife Rachna, and Madhavi Paranjape and her husband Hareesh. Dr. Mulgaonkak also leaves behind many close family members, friends, esteemed colleagues, and grateful patients.
