Sandra Lee Newman (Sandy), loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Friday December 13, 2024 at her home in Livingston, NJ surrounded by her loving family. Sandy was 89 years old.
She was born and raised in Newark, NJ and attended Weequahic High School in Newark, NJ and then attended Rutgers University. She was raised by her loving parents Ethel and Irving Wiener and had a close relationship with her late sister Paulette Katz. She met and married her late husband Dr. George V. Newman and moved to Livingston, NJ where they raised their children. They were married for over 56 years.
During her entire life she was an active volunteer for causes close to her heart including MetroWest Federation, NCJW, Hadassah, JCC, Livingston Democrats, Temple B’nai Jeshurun and the LACD- Livingston advisory committee for disabilities.
She was the matriarch for her family. She is survived by her two children: Amy (William) Lipsey of Livingston, NJ, Richard (Ronnit) Newman of Morristown, NJ and her six grandchildren Sarah (Yuval) Brokman, David (Allison) Lipsey, Joshua Lipsey, Isabelle Newman, Matthew Newman and Jeremy Newman. As well as her four great-grandchildren Idan, Noam, Orly and June.
The family will be receiving guests for Sandra on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 12:15 PM to 12:45 PM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial to follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge Township, New Jersey 07095.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Sandra’s memory be made to Jewish Federation of MetroWest or NCJW or Temple B’nai Jeshurun, Short Hills, NJ.
