Sami A. M. Abadir, 87, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, April 8, 2023. Born in Cairo, Egypt, and one of seven children, Sami attended medical school in Egypt and served in the Egyptian Army as a physician. He later immigrated to England in 1969, and then to the USA in 1970, with his wife and son. Sami completed his residency at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, NY, and he worked as an anesthesiologist at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, for 30 years, before his retirement in 2001.
Sami was a longtime, dedicated member of Mountain Ridge Bible Chapel in Berkeley Heights, NJ. His life was built on his faith in Jesus, and he lived to serve his beloved family, church, patients, and many others. He would always be seen with a smile on his face, and a genuine love for people, as he would famously say, “How are you my friend?” or “PRAISE THE LORD!” His deepest desire was for people to know the life-changing, joy-giving relationship they could have with God through Jesus. Everyone who knew him was blessed to have witnessed such an amazing life well-lived for the glory of God, by the grace and power of God.
Ephesians 2:8-10 (New International Version)
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Sami is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 56 years, Suzan Abadir; and his entire loving family - his son, Michael Abadir with his wife Juliette, and their children Justin, Grace, Claire, and Brooke; his daughter Janet Abadir with her husband Daniel Regehr, and their children Jonathan, Joel, and Joshua; and his son, Joseph Abadir. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Elaine Rizk, Sobhi Abadir, Samia Abdou with her husband Kamal, and brother-in-law, Samir Fanous; as well as his loving nephews and nieces, Nazieh Eid, Nabih Eid, Magdy Rizk with his wife Nancy, Nader Rizk with his wife May, Nevien Valenzuela with her husband Wilbert, Sameh Fanous with his wife Michelle, Michael Fanous with his wife Julia, Sylvia Abadir with her husband Alex, Caroline Engel with her husband Benoit, Christine Abdou, and Andrew Abdou with his wife Amrita; as well as many great-nephews and great-nieces, and friends who will dearly miss him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14 from 5-7 PM at Mountain Ridge Bible Chapel, Berkeley Heights, NJ. The services will conclude with a Celebration of Life at 7 PM. A second visitation will be held on Saturday, April 15 from 10-11:30 AM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston, NJ. A Memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM with interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, NJ.
