Born in Orange, NJ to the late Carl and Margaret Howes, Richard resided in Livingston for the past 50 years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served during the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. After his honorable discharge, Richard worked for various companies in the electrical industry, which included membership in the Telephone Pioneers of America. He began his career at Western Electric where he worked for 18 years, then moved on to Rowe International, and finally worked for Home Depot in Paramus, NJ. Richard was an avid train enthusiast, owning an expansive Lionel train collection dating back over 50 years. He enjoyed traveling with his family, and some of their most memorable trips were when they traveled by rail, including a cross- country trip from New York to San Francisco, CA.
Richard was predeceased by his siblings, Shirley Cooney, Jewel Howes and Joan Whitey. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Ann (nee Glackin), his cherished children Colleen Howes and Ryan Howes, and his adoring grandson Shane Noack. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and James Chin.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 4-8 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and/or St. Jude’s.
