Olga was a strong and vibrant lady who fought the disease valiantly until the end. She loved life and was deeply religious and we know that she is now celebrating with the angels.
Olga was born on June 8, 1943 in Medellin, Colombia to Jose and Barbara Restrepo. One of many siblings, with humble beginnings, she came to America over 50 years ago and worked very hard as a house keeper in a New York City Five Star hotel. She helped her family back in Colombia perpetually, while building a good life in the US. Olga married Rene Gomez and in 1980 she gave birth to their only child, Gloria, fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a mother. In 2014, Olga became a grandmother to twin boys, Cian and Mícheál, who she adored.
Olga loved to entertain, would be the life of the party and was an amazing cook. She could whip up a really tasty, creative dinner, just from bits she found in the refrigerator. She would light up a room when she entered and was often the life of the party. She brought happiness to all with her vibrancy and humor. She loved to dress up and took great pride in her appearance. Her favorite pastimes were dinners and shows with her friends in New York City. Living life to the fullest, she enjoyed Europe and the Caribbean and the odd flutter in Atlantic City.
Olga will be desperately missed by all those that she’s left behind. She is survived by her only child, Gloria, daughter-in-law Nóra, grandson’s Mícheál and Cian, sisters and brother, nieces, nephews and friends. Our hearts are broken at her loss. She was one of a kind.
We want to thank our truly wonderful Maplewood friends who have been there for Gloria and our family. We could not have made it through without your love, understanding and help! Thank You.
