Norma Weiss was a woman of great love, light, intelligence, and was an incredible supporter of her three sons, as well as her most treasured grandchildren, David, Madison, Rebecca, Daniel, Taylor and Jack. Norma passed peacefully the morning of December 30, 2023, at the age of 92, after a long illness. She will be missed beyond measure. Norma was predeceased by her parents Louis and Rose Reiss, her brother Ben Reiss, her husband Theodore, her beloved granddaughter, Madison Rose Weiss, as well as her long time companion, Bernard Brenner.
Norma was born in New York, New York on October 29, 1931 to Louis and Rose Reiss. She had a wonderful childhood with her brother, Ben, spending her time studying, cheerleading and dancing. One could often hear her reminiscing very animatedly of her meeting with Babe Ruth on a radio show she was selected to attend, as well as her trying out for the Rockettes. Norma graduated high school early at the age of 16, attended Hunter College where in she received a master's degree in Physical Education, quite a feat for the times. She went on to become a teacher, and enjoyed it immensely.
Norma met her future husband, Ted, on a blind date after college, and was hooked from the start. His snappy dress, and ability to draw cartoon characters on napkins during their first meeting together, hooked her in from the start. They married in 1953, and went on to have three wonderful sons, Kenneth, Ronald and Andrew. Norma was always found on the sidelines cheering and supporting her boys through their academia, as well as their sports achievements. As a huge sports fan, she was always ready to speak of her beloved Knicks and Yankees. Norma and Ted went onto to create Theodore Weiss Associates, Inc, in Livingston, New Jersey, a hugely successful interior design firm, wherein she supported her husband in the workplace, also quite unique for the times.
Norma and Ted experienced the marriages of their three boys, and gained three beautiful daughter-in laws, Lori, Patricia and Jessica.
As a couple, and with their family, they loved to travel and experienced the world together. They particularly enjoyed their yearly Christmas/New Years Caribbean cruise out of New York Clty on Home Lines, and the many years at Playa Linda in Aruba with their cherished family •
Their passion for dancing captured all those who witnessed their prowess. Their love of boating was palpable, as they were members of Garden State Yacht Club in Lake Hopatcong, NJ where Norma was the "best first mate" anyone could ask for. They later became members of Maplewood Country Club wherein their love of golf blossomed, and enjoyed introducing the sport to their grandchildren. After Ted's passing, Norma joined Cedar Hill Country Club where she played her beloved bridge and canasta, as she was quite an impassioned card player. She also loved golfing with the "Nine Holers", and loved the great group of women she met there.
Norma will be dancing in our hearts forever. Donations in her memory may be made to the Madison Rose Fund for Therapeutic Riding, at www.madisonrosefundnjcom.
