Born in Newark to the late Rocco and Rosa (Borelli) Colasanti, Norma lived in Bloomfield before moving to North Caldwell nearly fifty years ago.
She graduated from Central High School where she was a two-time varsity cheerleader captain and continued her education graduating from Montclair State University with a degree in psychology.
Norma worked as an office manager for Suburban Life Today Newspaper covering the Caldwells & West Essex areas and then spent more than twenty years working for the NJ Society of CPA’s in Roseland as a Chapter Coordinator before retiring in 2011. She was loved by all who worked with her.
She was the beloved wife of Thomas Sparno (“Tommy”), loving mother of Thomas Sparno and his wife Lynn and Kimberly Sternberg and her husband Perry, dear sister of Anthony Colasanti, Teresa Griesi, and the late Maria Avallone, and cherished grandmother of Alexa, Olivia, Thomas Joseph (“TJ”), Luke, and Alexandra.
Norma had many interests and talents. She enjoyed opera, playing piano, reading, writing poetry, speaking and writing Italian as a second language, cooking, travel, fashion, sports and, most importantly, spending time with her beloved family. She was devoted to her Catholic faith, a loyal supporter of St. Jude Foundation, and a beautiful person, both inside and out.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 2, 2021 in Notre Dame Church in North Caldwell at 10:30 am, followed by the Entombment in Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Services are being conducted under the direction of the LaMonica Memorial Home in Livingston.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Norma’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer.
