Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and coach Nicholas Ricci Borg of Union, New Jersey, born June 3, 1963 in New York, died on April 7, 2021. Nick is survived by his wife and soulmate of 31 years, Sheryl Olinsky Borg, son Nicholas Jacob Borg and daughter Nina Rae Borg, siblings Victor Borg and Paula Borg DiGiovanni, and loving nieces and nephews. Nick was pre-deceased by his parents, Nicholas and Annette Borg, and his beloved sister Deborah.
Nick was an accomplished thoroughbred horse racing expert. He started his career in racing in 1991 with The Racing Times. Nick soon moved to the Daily Racing Form where for twelve years he was a Quality Assurance Analyst for charts and past performance lines. During this time Nick wrote four books on Thoroughbred handicapping: Off The Charts, Win-Generate 2000, Hidden Par Method, and Ultimate Pace Handicapping. Most recently he shared his handicapping angles at nickborg.com.
In 2003 Nick began the most important and rewarding job of his life, becoming a stay-at-home dad. He selflessly dedicated the past 17 years to raising his children, who along with his wife Sheryl, were his universe. Anyone who had the privilege to know Nick knew that he was a one-of-a-kind soul with a tremendous heart and that he was absolutely unlike anyone they’d ever met. Caring, selfless, and devoted he loved completely everyone dear to him. Nick was an incredible cook who poured his love and soul into every meal he shared with anyone fortunate enough to sit at his table, a passion he very successfully passed on to both of his children. Second to his love of family was his love of sports. He was dedicated to coaching his son’s baseball team and training his daughter to do incredible soccer punts and goalkeeping. Nick was our family consigliere and was known to guide each of us, most especially his children, with his incredible wisdom, made even sharper with a cigar in his hand. His unexpected passing leaves family and friends with a profound void in their hearts.
There will be a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to a cause Nick held dear to his heart, St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
