Neal grew up in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, and was passionate about science and sports. He went to Brooklyn Technical High School, where he received academic medals for science and history, and was a running back and kicker on the football team. Neal attended University of Pittsburgh where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering, with the aid of both his hardworking parents, Arthur and Mary. He worked at General Electric and the Department of Defense for approximately 40 years.
Neal was a devoted father and husband who exemplified integrity, wisdom, strong values, humor and love. He had a hearty laugh and the warmest smile. He was a great Dad who taught his children important lessons and encouraged them to pursue their passions in life.
Neal was an avid golfer for many decades, and never got tired of talking about his first of three holes-in-one and the fact that a news reporter wrote a funny story about it in the local paper, the Daily Advance.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara; his sister Hermine Shapiro; his daughter Shari and her boyfriend Ed; his son Rick and wife Liz, and grandchildren Ryan and Adam.
The funeral service for Neal will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039. Following the funeral service, the burial will be at 12:30 PM at King Solomon Memorial Park, 550 Dwasline Rd., Clifton, NJ 07012.
