Born in Orange, New Jersey to the late Armondo and Lucille (Cortellacci) Battista, he was the brother of Samuel (Libby), Raymond (Susan), Lisa, the late Joseph Battista, and fiance Jeanne Padakis, who was his vigilant caregiver during his illness.
Michael’s career consisted of more than 30 years as owner of Sam-Mik Structural. He also owned dry cleaning stores in Livingston, Florham Park, and Madison.
He loved to entertain family and friends with his delicious meals and everyone was happy in his company. Michael had a special gift of relating to people regardless of their age or status. All those who knew him loved him.
Michael enjoyed the outdoors and was an accomplished tennis player, and golfer. He loved music and mastered the drums at an early age.
Always up for a challenge he learned to ski in his forties in Colorado. His travels took him far and he especially enjoyed his long stays in St. Thomas and Florida for many years.
He enjoyed surf fishing often reeling in the evening meal. His love of nature brought out the free spirit that defined him. It always gave him great joy tending his yard and feeding all the animals.
In addition to his siblings he leaves his nephews Brian Battista (Catherine), Stephen Battista (Tarah), Samuel Battista (Andrea), Michael Gerardo (Tom O'Hara) He was great uncle to Gavin, Juliana, Brandon, Vivienne, Fallon and Jack.
He leaves many friends who will never forget his quick wit and the joy he brought to their lives.
Visitation will be held at the LaMonica Memorial Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue in Livingston, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 4-8 pm.
Services will commence at the funeral home on Thursday, June 23, 2022 At 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland at 10:30 am and the burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Michael's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
