Maurice A. Lewis, 95, of West Orange, died on June 14, 2015. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School and City College of New York with a degree in accounting. During World War II he served in the U. S. Army, rising to the rank of Warrant Officer.
Together with his late brother Bert, Mr. Lewis operated Lewis International Corp., an import export business, for more than 50 years.
He was a long-time volunteer for both Meals on Wheels and The Children's Specialized Hospital.
Mr. Lewis was predeceased by his first wife, Muriel. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Ruth Ostrow Lewis, his daughters Ellen Lewis Rice and Robin Lewis, sons-in-law, Jay Rice and Robert Sapoff, grandchildren Bradley L. Rice and his wife Stephenie, Dara Lynn Smith and her husband Raul, and one great grandson, Ryan Maksim Rice.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ.
The family will be sitting shiva at the home of Robin Lewis and Robert Sapoff on Wednesday, June 17, immediately following interment and Thursday, June 18, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 p.m. On Friday, June 19, shiva will be held at the home of Ellen and Jay Rice from 2 to 4 p.m.
