We have together brought out a compilation of the said 'befitting rich tributes' and 'anecdotes' that throw light on some of the finest qualities that our friend Mathai was possessed with. Long-lasting memorable imprints made by him during his association with us will continue to be cherished in times to come. With tears moistening our eyes, we as batchmates cum friends,  collectively bid our "last farewell" to him in right earnest; we also pray before the Almighty God to rest his soul in peace besides granting salvation.

Dear Mrs Mathai, Tom &  Sam,
As batchmates and friends  of our "Departed Beloved Buddy - Samuel Mathai", we share our heartfelt deep condolences  with everyone  of you during this hour of grief and sorrow.

We are all aware of the great efforts that have been collectively put up by you'll by attending 24/7 on beloved 'Head Of Your Family", who had been ailing for quite a prolonged period, eversince he suffered from stroke; we wholeheartedly appreciate and salute everyone of you for the immaculate services  rendered to him till he breathed his last. 

We hold our companion Samuel Mathai in high esteem for all the good virtues that were his hallmark : great respects and devotion that he had for his loving Parents,  the affection and care  showered by him on his siblings and above all the deep love and utmost care he had for all his family members, wherever he was put up with them.

His valour combined with brave instincts in killing a menacing venomous Black Cobra, that was trying to force it's entry into one of the hostels of our training centre (wayback in 1972 at Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, India) continues to linger in the memories of almost all of us till date. This incident that happened more than fifty years back (1972) continues to occupy a special place in our memory, as an act of a heroic deed by our "Bravado   Samuel Mathai".

Mathai was also known as a "Good Samaritan" to some amongst us, who were aware of his acts of compassion and benevolence  by giving a helping hand to those living in very lower strata of the society. There were several instances of his generosity, wherein he distributed very reasonably priced ready made garments (purchased by him in bulk) to the needy people living in the slum dwellings of Andheri and other areas of Mumbai.

Many amongst our batch have candid memories of Mathai that they may like to recall from their respective memory lanes. However, owing to paucity of time, the same cannot be recounted.

A humble, always smiling,  down to earth  Samuel Mathai's departure  is agonizing. For six months we together in particular group along with some other trainees at training centre did Shramdaan( free of cost labour). While doing the assigned job we developed special intimacy. Later at Mumbai( then Bombay), by grace of almighty, we again got an opportunity to meet  and such interaction continued for about 5 years. I still continue to cherish those memories.
              I offer my deep condolences to the  the entire family for the loss.

Very sad to hear about the demise of my great friend Mathai. My last interaction with him  at Mumbai  and his unperturbed reactions still linger in my memories. Good bye Mathai. RIP. 


I am deeply saddened by the loss of our batchmate and old friend Mr. Samuel Mathai. We knew him since 03.07.1972 when we met him at the time of our joining our department in New Delhi. He will be truly missed.  We are truly sorry for your loss. He will never be forgotten. I  would like to offer my prayers and condolences to grieving family. May his soul rest in peace in heaven.

             I  came in close contact with Mathai fifty years back . We had many memorable experiences during the one year of training. We both were posted to North east but to different states. I enjoyed his hospitality twice at Jorhat in 1975-76.  He was very mature yet jovial personality. I could not get opportunity to work with him as all along we were posted in different states. we kept up correspondence till his departure to USA.
He was of helpful nature all along. 
          Pray to Almighty to give his family members strength to withstand this loss.

My name is Karamjit Singh. I am Samuel Mathai’s batchmate. I feel sad to know his demise. I had association with him during our training in Shivpuri. I still remember his innocent face. He was soft spoken and smiling all the time. RIP.
