Marion Estelle Smith McAteer Cook, formerly of Orange, NJ, passed away on July 23, 2021 at her home in Toms River, NJ. Born in West Orange and a longtime resident of Orange, Marion taught the elementary grades in the Orange school system for over twenty years. Upon retirement, she moved to Toms River, NJ where she lived for the last 36 years.
Marion was a proud Veteran who served in the Navy from 1944 and received the American Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in 1945. She was a Seton Hall alumnus, a member of the St. Maximilian Kolbe Rosary Society, American Legion Post 129 in Toms River, the Jersey Shore Wave Unit #68 and the Waves National.
Marion was predeceased by her two beloved husbands, James McAteer and William Cook. She is survived by her loving children Kevin and Karen McAteer, Maureen and Oscar Molina, Mark McAteer and James McAteer. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Andrea Pruyn, Kevin McAteer Jr, John McAteer, Michele Halper, Lindsay Roselli, Anthony Molina and Kate McAteer and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Wenger and Mary Alice Falzo.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 28th from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at a 10:30 a.m. at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ. Burial will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
