Lucy Monica age 98, of Toms River, NJ, formerly of West Orange, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 30, 2021
Lucy Monica was born to Nickolas and Giovanna Gaudiosi on September 24th, 1923. Born in San Andrea, Toscana Italy. Lucy emigrated from Italy to America on Thanksgiving day in November of 1937 along with her mother and sisters, Susie and Mickey. She always loved to tell everyone about how she “kissed the ground” once she arrived on Ellis Island because she was so grateful to be in America. Lucy lived and raised her children with her late husband Anthony Monica in West Orange NJ. Lucy worked for many years at Kessler Institute. Upon retirement, she moved to Toms River NJ.
Lucy was a strong minded, independent, hard working woman, who always gave her best in everything she did. Anyone that knew Lucy, knew that her greatest love was her family. She also enjoyed vacationing at the shore, dancing, and singing wherever and whenever she chose.
She is survived by her loving children Anthony Monica, Joanne Cross and her son in law Wayne Cross, and Michael Monica and his wife Patricia. As well as her 6 grandchildren, Wayne Cross, Martine and her husband Nick Shepard, Christine and her husband Christopher Caprino, Danielle Monica, Bianca Monica, and Michael Monica. Also her 5 great-grandchildren Luciana, Antonio, and Taoramina Cross, along with Nicholas and Scarlett Shepard.
Visitation will be Monday October 4, 2021 from 10:30 to 12:30PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 145 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ. A Funeral mass will follow at St. Raphael’s Church 346 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ, at 1 PM. For the health and safety of the family and friends masks are required during the visitation and mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
