

Judith Irene Van Ysseldyk (nee Dowd), 76, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 1st, at her home in Livingston after a brief illness. She was surrounded by loving family, friends, and the kind support of St. Barnabas hospice care.
Born in Orange, NJ and a graduate of St. Elizabeth's College, Judy will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her uncanny humor and her wonderful storytelling. Judy was a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur, notably as founder of The New York Institute for Child Development, a ground-breaking not-for-profit center for special needs children. Highlights of Judy's life with her husband Jack of 35 years include sailing across the Atlantic Ocean in Jack's 36-foot sailboat, and launching various business ventures together.
Judy is survived by her beloved husband Jacob Van Ysseldyk; her sisters Margaret Connelly, Dolores Vogel, Maureen Dowd and Debra Dowd; her brothers William J. Dowd, Jr. and Martin Dowd. She is predeceased by her parents William J. Dowd and Mildred Dowd, and her brother Barry Dowd.
Visitation will be held at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston on Sunday, June 4th from 2pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm. A Mass celebrating Judy's life will be held at St. Philomena's RC Church Monday, June 5th at 10am, with interment immediately after at Graceland Memorial Park, 1900 Galloping Hill Road in Kenilworth.
