John was born on November 5, 1931 in Orange, NJ where he met the love of his life, Dolores (Dee) DeRiggi when the two were adolescents. John and Dee married in 1955 and were married for 33 years before Dee’s untimely death in 1988. The two moved to Livingston in 1964 where they raised their three children.
John was drafted into the military in 1950 and served in the Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. for two years as a Military Police Officer.
John worked for Western Electric for 14 years before leaving to start his own carpentry business with his brother Charles. The “McLaughlin Bros.” business was very successful for 30 years until his retirement. John found love again with Barbara Nisivoccia and enjoyed a beautiful home on the west coast of Florida for ten years before Barbara’s passing.
John is survived by his children John Jr. (wife Donna), Roxanne and Toni (fiance Pete) as well as his sister Sally (husband Bill) and six beautiful grandchildren: Brittany (husband Todd), Nicole (fiance Ryan), Jessi, Carly, Sean and Kevin. John was adored by ALL, including his step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-grand nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his wife Dolores McLaughlin, brother Charles McLaughlin and mother Sarah DeMartino.
John was a member of the Livingston Elks Lodge 1855 for 50+ years where he was an officer and also gave of his time and talents. He was honored by receiving the Elk of the Year award three times.
Aside from being a true family man, throughout his life John enjoyed hunting, bowling, gardening, golfing, and his precious Cadillac! John was Mr. Fix-It; he could literally fix anything!!

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 29 from 4-8 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 30, at 10AM, with military honors and interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
