James H. Howlett Sr., 78, of West Orange, NJ, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. James was born in Orange, NJ to Herbert and Margaret Howlett, He attended grammar school at St. John's in Orange, NJ and graduated from Essex Catholic High School in Newark, NJ. Class of 1963. Right after high school, him and his best friend, Tom, joined the US Marine Corp. He was a proud veteran who served from 1963-1966.
James was a hard working, funny guy. He loved doing carpentry work around the house and spending time with his family and friends, especially at the VFW in Clifton. He was a proud member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, and the Marine Corp League.
James is predeceased by his sister Janet Cassidy and daughter, Donna Gilsenan, and survived by his wife of 55 years, Madelyn, his children, Debbie Howlett and Jim Howlett Jr., son-in-law, Robert Gilsenan, and his beloved grandchildren, Katie, Jimmy, Kelly, Samantha, and Bobby.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 4-8 PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mount Pleasant Ave., Livingston, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for James at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 22 Lakeside Ave. Verona, NJ Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 10 AM with entombment to immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
