Henry Ott, 85, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 in Livingston, NJ. Henry was a member of the technical staff of Bell Telephone Laboratories since 1957. He received his B.S. in electrical engineering from Newark College of Engineering in 1957, and his M.S. in electrical engineering from New York University in 1963. He served three years in the U.S. Air Force, Air Research and Development Command. His experience includes work in the fields of missile guidance systems, electromechanical control systems, nuclear instrumentation, and telephony. In 1970 he originated a continuing education course in noise reduction at Bell Laboratories and has been teaching the course since. He is a member of the IEEE, IEEE Communications Society, and the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Group. He has published technical articles and textbooks, and is the holder of two patents. He is a member of both Eta Kappa Nu and Omicron Delta Kappa. He is the President and Principal Consultant of Henry Ott Consultants, and EMC/ESD training and consulting organization located in Livingston, New Jersey. Henry is considered by many to be the nation’s leading EMC educator.

Henry is survived by his loving wife, Harriet; his son, James Ott (Megan) and daughter Carol Ott, as well as his step-children Wayne Riedl (Karen), Doug Riedl (Danielle), Linda Harris (Tim), and Camille Pinto. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brandon, Patrick, Tim, Chris, Lauren, Stephanie, Joey, and Matt, as well as his great-grandchildren Addison and Kylie.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 25 from 3-7 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston. Service will be held at the end of the visitation at 7PM. Cremation will be private.
