Harriet was born in Philadelphia, where she continued her educational path to graduate from Villanova Law School in 1987. It was there she met her future husband, Dr. Barry Kaplan, who was attending Dental School at the University of Pennsylvania.
They subsequently moved to New Jersey and ultimately resided in Randolph for the better part of 25 years with their beloved children, Max, age 25, and Ilana, age 19.
Harriet completely immersed herself in the lives of her husband and children. Harriet took the role of office manager for her husband's dental practice, using her legal skills to advocate tirelessly for patients and insurance issues. She absorbed herself completely in his work, and attended many scientific sessions together in order to be fully aware of all aspects of the dental procedures and office policies. No one could have been more focused or dedicated.
Her close friends were awed by her kindness, tenacity, loyalty, and self-effacing advocacy for anyone needing advice. Harriet left us all too soon, and will be deeply missed by all.
Harriet is survived by her husband Barry; two children, Max and Ilana; her father-in-law, Edward Kaplan, and her loving brother, Howard Elgart.
Services will be held at 11:45 a.m. today (Sunday, Aug. 5), at Bernheim-Apter- Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston, N.J., with interment to follow at King Solomon Cemetery In Clifton, N.J.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
