Francis Joseph “Bud” Murphy of Livingston, NJ, passed away on March 12, 2021, at St. Barnabas Medical Center. Mr. Murphy, also known as “Frank,” was born in Orange on October 4, 1935. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and Orange High School, and honorably served his country as a medic in the United States Army. He resided in Livingston for 58 years.
Mr. Murphy was a talented mechanic. As a young man, he owned and operated Murphy’s Service in West Orange, and then in Montclair. Later he worked as a Construction Supervisor for Hutton Construction. He was a member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in West Orange.
Bud’s greatest successes, however, were as a husband, father, and in the number of friends he made through his unceasing kindness, generosity and good humor. Those who were lucky enough to sit near him for any length of time discovered his wit and gift for story-telling.
He is predeceased by his father, Felix C. Murphy, his mother, Mae F. Murphy (nee McLaughlin), his brother, Charles Murphy, his sisters Jeanne Walsh and Doris (Peggy) Carner, and his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 56 years, Audrey L. Murphy (nee Powell).
Bud is survived by daughters Francine O’Connell, Linda Murphy-Anagnost and her husband, Allan, Mariann Murphy and her husband, Kenneth Klenke, and Sandra Murphy; by his grandchildren Dennis O’Connell, Grace Anagnost and Marlise Klenke; by his sister Maureen Hutchinson, and by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass on Saturday, March 20 at 11:00 am at the Church of St. Philomena, Livingston. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Hubert’s Animal Shelter in his memory would be appreciated.
