

Dr. Bernard S. Strauss died in Boca Raton, Florida, on July 2, 2022. His funeral will be held Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039. Following the funeral service, he will be interred at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, NJ.
Dr. Strauss is survived by his wife, Lynn Strauss, of Boca Raton, FL. He is also survived by his daughters Linda Silver, of Short Hills, NJ, and Lauren Strauss, of Chevy Chase, MD, as well as their husbands, Ross Silver and Jonathan Meyer, respectively, and grandchildren Zack and his wife Anna, Jared, and Daniel Silver, and Jordana, Ezra and Naomi Meyer. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Sharon Strauss, of Palmyra, VA. Bernie was also a loving father to his stepchildren Jodi Marshall, Jeff Silverman, and Wendy Peckman, and their spouses Nancy Silverman and Mark Peckman, and a loving grandfather to their children Taylor, Ali and Carly Marshall, Jake Silverman, and Alex and Spencer Peckman.
Dr. Strauss was born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 12, 1938, to immigrants from Ukraine and Rumania. After graduating as President of his senior class at Samuel J. Tilden High School in 1956, he attended Union College on an academic scholarship, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. From 1969 to 1971, he served as a Major in the United States Air Force. He then settled with his family in Livingston and later Essex Fells, practicing urological surgery in the area for many years. He was among the first doctors in North Jersey to successfully transplant a human kidney from a live donor. Demonstrating his lifelong devotion to learning, he achieved a Master’s degree in Public Administration with a focus on Health Policy and Management during the 1990s.
Bernie loved reading, writing his memoirs, playing golf, and his dog Lily.
After retiring to Boca Raton, FL, he was a frequent volunteer at the Caridad Health clinic in Boynton Beach.
