Wilma Lavonne Jones passed away February 17, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born on February 13, 1931 in Little Rock to Walter and Hattie Griffin. She graduated from Mount St. Mary’s in 1948. She was married to Robert “Bob” Jones for 67 years. After raising three strong daughters, she received her RN from UALR and worked at St. Vincent’s for 30 years. She was an avid reader and history buff. She loved needlework, time at the lake, reading cookbooks, and celebrating the holidays with her family. Blessed with an angelic singing voice, she enjoyed an enduring love of music and sang at many area events. A lifelong yellow dog democrat, she’s still mad that the Arkansas Gazette name is tarnished by the current state paper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jimmie and George, her husband Bob, and her daughter Teresa Cook. She is survived by her sister Ellen Johnson (Arnie) of Big Sandy, TX, her daughters Jeanie Maness (Cliff) of Maumelle and Cathy Finefield (Philip Osborne) of Lonoke, her granddaughters Sarah Mordecai (Paul) of Little Rock, Katie Finefield (Joshua Pangle) of Roland, and Samantha Nation (Jason) of North Little Rock, her great-grandchildren Charlotte “Charlie” Nation, Ronald “Ronnie” and Griffin Mordecai, and son-in-law Peter Cook.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00AM on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Calvary Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Mordecai home at 622 Ivory Drive, LR, AR, 72205. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to AETN at myarkansaspbsfoundation.org.
