Kenneth L. Rowland, 85, passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2022. He was born May 13, 1937, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Kenneth V. Rowland and Thelma Priscilla Mae Jenkins Rowland.
Ken graduated from Little Rock Central High School, Class of 1955. Following graduation, he attended Ouachita Baptist University then later attended and graduated from the University of Central Arkansas, Class of 1963.
Ken started his professional career at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. Then after moving back to Little Rock, he worked at what is now Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, for several years before beginning his career as a research biologist with what is now the National Center for Toxicological Research, a division of the Food and Drug Administration, from which he retired after 35 years of service.
Ken dearly loved God and was a lifelong Christian, attending a number Central Arkansas churches throughout his lifetime, most recently being a faithful and longtime member of what is now Impact Church. He dearly loved his family and friends, with whom he loved to gather. He had a great sense of humor with eyes that twinkled when he laughed. He was wonderfully decent, loving, faithful, kind and gentle. He also was very smart and innately curious, two characteristics that served him well as a most thrifty do-it-yourselfer.
Ken was predeceased by his parents and brother Mike Rowland. He was widowed by his wife, Sue Rowland, which he loved, cared and nursed though a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children Jennifer Morris (Sammy), Scott Evans (Dawn), Melissa Evans and Brendan Rowland (Meredith); grandchildren Rachel Porter, Rebecca Porter Pomeroy, Tyler O’Neal, Taylor Evans, Sunny Downs, Noah Evans, Montana Rowland, Mackenzie Rowland and Ethan Ratliff; great-grandchildren Penelope O’Neal, Lucas O’Neal and Prudence Joy Pomeroy; siblings Marcella Grimmett, Gary Rowland (Jackie), Diana Woolen (John) and Larry Rowland (Sandy); sister-in-law Shirley Rowland; beloved caring friend Kimberly Delyles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Impact Church located at 5500 Landers Road in North Little Rock, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Ken in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Arkansas Alzheimer's Foundation or the American Heart Association, Arkansas Chapter.
