Laverne was a loving, Christian woman who enjoyed photography, singing with her sister, and making clothes for her daughters. She became a home-maker and volunteered at her children’s school, as well as became their Girl Scout leader. As an adult, she proudly earned her GED and graduated at the top of her class. Laverne worked for 36 years in childcare and even owned her own daycare, Sunshine Day Care. She was a faithful member of Forest Tower Baptist Church who enjoyed worship and participating in plays with her church family. She and her husband, Bodie, enjoyed watching their grandchildren play sports, as well as Razorback football. Laverne never met a stranger which allowed her to make a lot of friends throughout the years.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Wilda Smith Davis, Beverly Smith Hogg and Glenda Smith Dodd; 15 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; cousins Bobbie and Randy Conardy; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bodie Smith; daughter, Gwendolyn Smith Wise; son-in-law, Gary Wise; son-in-law, Rickey Davis; parents, Alton and Myrtle Pierce; sister and brother-in-law, Ernestine and Odas Smith.
Visitation will be held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home with a funeral service following at 5:00 PM, Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home.
A private graveside burial ceremony will be a Sidon Cemetery Friday, January 20, 2023.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Travis Davis, Richard Davis, Leroy Davis, Shawn Wise, Mitchell Wise, Chase Dodd, Ray Burkas, Isaac Kurtz, and Sean Jonkman.
