After a long battle with dementia, Eloise “Carolyn” Cross Vinson, age 88, ascended into Heaven on January 9, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years and love of her life, Robert Joseph Vinson; her son, Robert Joseph Vinson, Jr. “Little Bud”; and her parents, John and Ruby Cross. She is survived by her daughters, Cheri Burke (Patrick), Tamara Gunn (Steve), and Teresa Holladay (Dan). She was the proud “Momo” of 4 grandchildren, Vinson Ponto (Beth), Zachary Ponto (Grace), Matthew Ponto (Logan) and Keri Burke-deTranaltes (Mark) and 4 great grandchildren, Charlotte, Jonah, Zane and Linkin. She is also survived by her sisters, Phyllis Montgomery and Brenda Smith.
While supporting her husband on his rise to becoming Train Master of the Rock Island Railroad, she moved eight times while raising her three girls always remaining active in their lives. She was involved in the Girl Scout Leadership program, a member of the Masonic Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed participating in horse playdays. She completed her career as a Nursing Home Administrator responsible for three facilities in the Greenville, Texas area.
After retiring to the “Round Tuit” on Lake Bob Sandlin in Pittsburg, Texas she enjoyed all water sports including many rounds of singing while sitting on the boat dock. While in Pittsburg she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, she was an enthusiastic supporter of the Salvation Army ringing the bell for many years and she volunteered at the Pittsburg Heritage Museum. Although she suffered from dementia, she remained happy. She loved to share with everyone, whether it was a smile or a cookie and above all she never lost her love of singing. Mom, MoMo, Momma V or Miss Carolyn no matter how she was known to you, she was happy to see you and give you her best smile.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Carolyn’s name to the organizations that were dear to her heart: Girl Scouts of the USA, Salvation Army, Alzheimer’s Association and The American Heart Association.
