Carol Couch "Meegha" was born in Indiana on April 21, 1936 and raised as Carol Ann Choate in Tucson, Arizona by her parents Glenn Cunningham Choate and Wilmuth Rousculp Choate. She loved living and growing up in Tucson. Her favorite sight there is the range called Superstitious Mountains and talked of them often. For years she wanted a baby brother and at the age of 10, she became “Sis” to her brother Michael and 2 years after that to her brother Pat. Both of whom she adored and always loved being their sister.
After completing high school, Carol graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital Nursing School in Tucson Arizona and became a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in 1957. Being a nurse was all she ever wanted to be and it was her calling for 41 years.
Carol married in 1957 and it was through that marriage she moved to and lived in Moses Lake, WA; Blytheville, AR and Omaha, NE. Finally settling in Arkansas in 1977 where she remained until 1998 when she moved to Las Vegas, NV with her daughters.
Carol spent the first half of her 41 year career working in Obstetrics and Emergency Room medicine; loving both of them equally. Once returning to Arkansas she moved her professional direction to the elderly and was the Director of Nurses for Mississippi County Nursing Home in Blytheville, AR for many many years. This was the highpoint of her later career. She valued the opportunity of opening and maintaining the highest quality facility in the area. She loved the job and everyone she worked with. She also taught CPR & CNA classes at the area Vocational College. She often said that allowed her to find and hire for her facility the “Cream of the crop!” Her staff and residents were family to her and us for almost 20 years. It was here and in her 50’s that she went to college and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree and became Carol Couch, B.S. N. She was almost as proud of herself as her children were of this amazing accomplishment so late in life.
During this same 41 years Carol also managed to raise 2 daughters, Lynn Denton-Jones, born in Tucson, AZ and Rae Erickson, born in Moses Lake WA. She was an amazing mother. She modeled a tremendous work ethic, compassion for others and the meaning of unconditional love. These lessons will be carried on for generations due to her.
After moving to Las Vegas in 1998, she retired and fully enjoyed her remaining many years doing exactly and anything she wanted. She loved fireworks, thunder storms, rainbows, wind chimes, purple mountains, and mariachi bands. But above all else, she loved her family.
In the last several years Carol had the privilege to live in both Las Vegas, NV and Little Rock, AR. She loved that she spent summers and winters in Las Vegas with her daughter Rae Erickson, and spent spring and summer in Little Rock, AR with her daughter Lynn Denton-Jones. She loved being a “jet-setter”.
Carol was Catholic and remained very active in her faith as long as she could. Over the years she was Eucharistic Minister at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Little Rock, AR, then Eucharistic Minister at both St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Las Vegas, NV as well as Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock, AR.
Carol was an avid reader, won several ribbons on horseback, water-skier, loved to dance and parasailed in Mexico at the age of 70. She loved life and always had a smile on her face. Being with her family was her greatest joy, and ours.
Throughout all the years she developed amazing relationships and friends. She leaves behind many people, far and wide, whose lives she has touched and who love her. We are all better for having been in her life. She will be missed by many.
Carol Couch passed peacefully on Dec. 12, 2018 at the age of 82. She was surrounded by and attended to by family and the loving staff at Colonel Glenn Health & Rehab where she lived her final 15 months joyously.
Carol is survived by 2 brothers: Michael Landon Choate (Kathy Choate) of Florida and Patrick Cunningham Choate (Sharron Choate) of Texas. 2 daughters: Lynn Denton-Jones (Phil Jones) of Little Rock, AR and Rae Erickson (Jason Erickson) of Las Vegas, NV. She leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Natalie Dawn Denton, Autumn Rae Golhoffer (Josh Golhoffer), Michael Patrick Moseley and Steven Christopher Moseley and great grandson, Noah David Denton, all of Las Vegas, NV.
Services were held in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, January 26th at 1:30 pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church at 1811 Pueblo Vista Dr., Las Vegas, NV 89128. Gathering of family and friends followed in a life celebration.
