It is with great joy and sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Steven Alan Rumley Sr., age 71, of Myrtle Beach, SC on February 19, 2023 at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pastor who touched the lives of so many people in his community and beyond.
Steven A. Rumley was born in Burlington, NC on March 8, 1951. He served in the United States Air Force in the years before he began his ministry. Pastor Steve served at several churches throughout North Carolina, including Burlington, Matthews, Cary, and Apex. He was the founding pastor of Potter’s Hand Bible Church in Apex, NC, and the co-founder of Support Military Families, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and encouraging our armed forces service members’ spouses and children.
Steve was the most humble, kind, yet strong and faithful servant of the Lord. He was a man after God’s own heart, always looking to reach the lost for Jesus Christ. Dr. Rumley committed his life to shepherding his flock. God used him to passionately share the gospel, always making it relatable and applicable to all. His love and commitment to his family was only surpassed by his devotion to the Lord.
As a man of great integrity, he was steadfast, patient, and forgiving. Making him the most loving husband, wonderful father, and cherished Pawpaw. Steve’s physical strength was obvious to all he came in contact with, but it was his inner grit and resolve that set him apart from others.
One of Pastor Steve’s most important goals was to finish strong, and he did just that, while maintaining his unwavering love for Jesus. A man who truly, “Fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.”
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Lynn Rumley; his parents, Everett Lea Rumley Sr. and Iona Lynette Gosnell, his brother, Everett Lea Rumley Jr. and his sister, Kathy Rumley Morris.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Rumley of Myrtle Beach, SC; his children, Chastity Lesesne (husband Hal); Jason Rumley (wife Donaka); Steve Rumley Jr. (wife Heather); Camilla Slack (husband Chris); Michael Ferrise (wife Emily); David Ferrise and Nicole Ferrise. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren whom he adored and cherished, his brother, Dennis Rumley (wife Emily), his sister in law Sue Rumley, his dear nieces and nephews, and so many special friends.
A funeral service will be held at Potter’s Hand Bible church in Apex, NC on Friday, February 24, 2023 with visitation beginning from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The service will follow shortly after, where friends and family can pay their respects and celebrate the life of Dr. Rumley.
