Her loving parents, Irving and Cozelia Clayton preceded her in death.
Shirley worked 43 years with the Federal Government at the North Carolina Center of Health Statistics. She was a medical supervisor and traveled the western part of the US giving classes to other parts of CDC. Many of these times she took her best friend, Lila Hales, along with her to enjoy God’s beauty.
Her move to North Myrtle Beach in September of 2021 brought many good experiences for her. She found a wonderful church at First Baptist North Myrtle Beach. She had many great friends there as well as the pastors.
Her CBS (Community Bible Study) ladies proved to be outstanding Godly loving and caring women. In April, her health began to decline and these sweet, God-fearing ladies came to her side over and over. She cherished her time with each of them. A private memorial with these ladies will be held in mid-August.
Remaining to cherish her memory is her husband, Dennis Carter of Cary, NC; her sister, Tricia Clayton and brother-in-law Tommy Clayton (whom she loved as a brother) of Weddington, NC; children Andrya Carter of Wilmington; Stephen Carter of Elizabeth City; and 5 grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022 at First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach.
Memories may be shared on this website. Lee Funeral Home and Crematorium of Little River/N. Myrtle Beach is serving the family.
