Richard W. Shaw, Jr., but known by many as either Rickoshea or Ricky, was born in Jersey City on March 28, 1963 and passed on March 26, 2022, just two days shy of his 59th birthday. He attended school in Toms River, NJ, and enrolled in the vocational school where he studied to be an electrician. He graduated from High School North in 1981. In 1997, he moved to South Carolina and eventually attended Horry-Georgetown Technical College where he obtained his licenses for Residential as well as Commercial Heating and Air. Ricky worked a multitude of jobs in various crafts, which is why he was a great “jack of all trades”. He was quite proud of his ATM Repair and Installation company too, but no matter what industry he worked in, his integrity was always commendable.
Rick, and his deceased son “Little Ricky”, had a love of soccer. Because of this love, Ricky founded the Toms River Independent Club (TRIC), which is a huge soccer club in NJ. It took him two years of hard work and networking with the mayor and town officials. Eventually he even received a congratulatory letter from Governor Christine Todd Whitman. He picked out the colors, and designed all the patches and logos, which are still used today. Ricky started the league so coaches could have a say about their teams and the kids. However, suffice it to say, he loved the children he coached and his team is the one he cherished most.
Rick was loved by so many and his friends came from every spectrum of life. Most referred to him as Rickoshea, which is how he usually introduced himself. Wherever he went in NJ or SC, he almost always knew someone; and if he didn’t, he certainly made numerous friends before he left that spot. His smile and his humor were part of his engaging personality. If you were his friend, he would honor and value that friendship forever.
Ricky loved his family and composed beautiful messages and texts daily, as well as some extremely hysterical ones. He was a very funny guy with a fun-loving personality. He loved life, his family, his friends, had a passion for fishing, and of course, he loved his Harley. He will be deeply missed by so many! Rest in peace Rickoshea!
Ricky wasn't much for dressing up, so in keeping with his wishes, the family asks that you come "as you are". His visitation will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 10:45 AM to 11:00 AM. Following the visitation will be a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Lee Funeral Home, 11840 Hwy 90, Little River, So 29566.
