Mother was born March 7, 1921 in Wampee, SC. She was predeceased by her parents, Lucian D. and Ora Causey Willard; our Daddy, Oscar E. Thompson and our stepdad, Guy Mallery; great grandson, Durham Wade Chandler; four brothers, Paul, Walter, L.D and Yvonne Willard; six sisters, Claudine Sessoms, Elva Suggs, Bert Smith Inman, Katie Fenegan Moore, Fronnie Hucks and Lydia Clardy.
She is survived by her three daughters, Patty, Lynn and Cherry;
three grandchildren, Dana Chandler Lewis, Wade Chandler and Shane Chandler; six great grandchildren, Kyle, Rivers, McKenna, Brady, Cooper and Malaree Chandler; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hope and Anne and Starlin and Peggy Willard; two sisters, Jackie Chandler and Billie Johnson; two sisters-in-law,
Barbara Willard and Margaret Thompson.
She was a life-long member of Wampee Methodist Church, where she served as Treasurer for many years. Mother lived her life always for and with the love of Jesus. She was a member of the Sand Dollar Square Dancers until her mid 80’s.
She was manager of “The Beach Shop” in Ocean Drive for several years before going to work for Dr. George C. Norton and continued to work for Dr. Ramsbottom. Mother worked at Larry’s Seafood Barn with Patty and then
the original Calabash Restaurant with Lynn and Cherry.
Mother was the strongest, yet most humble woman we have ever known. She raised us, never complained and did her best to “keep us in line”. She loved gardening, working in the yard, hauling dirt, spreading straw (very loosely, we might add), planting flowers and then surrounding them with rocks. She loved making friendship cookies and sharing them with others. She also loved to make dolls, crochet, knit and do needlepoint. There are so many things we could say about Mother, but we cannot begin to express the love and respect we hold in our hearts for her. God rest her soul in peace and love. Special thanks to Regency Hospice for everything they did for her, and also a very special thank you to Mike Gainer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, October 22 in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wampee United Methodist Church, 9911 Hwy 90, Little River, SC 29566.
She will be forever missed by family and friends. For those of you who know the story, remember “The Big Mouth Frog”. A guestbook is available at www.leefhandcrematory.com. Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of
Little River/North Myrtle Beach is serving the family.
