Margaret Anne Carter, age 71, passed away December 10, 2020, due to complications of COVID and other underlying health issues. She was born June 1949, in Washington, DC, to the late Richard T. and Margaret A. Barnes. She married her longtime friend and love, Ronald M. Carter, in February of 2002.
Peggy, as she was affectionately called by all of those who knew her well, loved to love people, especially her family. One of most favorite things to do was to plan trips and travel with her husband. She also discovered a passion for late night shopping on QVC and experimenting in the kitchen. She was proud of creating her own unique dishes. Peggy had a servant’s heart and was a faithful servant of God. She loved to laugh and smile and tried to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. She also loved being the baby of the family. She would tease her sisters claiming she had been the favorite of their parents and older brother.
Her career with the Federal Government was in the contracts division of the Naval Research Laboratory. Although she held many side jobs as a single mom to make ends meet, she was most proud of her time, position and work family at NRL, all of whom she loved dearly. She retired from NRL in 2005.
She is survived by her husband Ronald; sisters, Sharon Coulson (Phillip); Patricia Williams (Gary). Sharon and Pat will miss their sister, confidant and best friend more than words can express. Peggy is also survived by her husband’s family in Virginia and Florida, who were so important to her; many nieces and nephews (including great and great-great nieces and nephews); and her best friend, Linda Auth (Carl); all of whom she loved and touched deeply. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother, Richard R. Barnes (Joan).
We will be celebrating her life on December 29, 2020. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. and Memorial Service starts at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church North Myrtle Beach.
