Our father, Lloyd O. Cox passed away peacefully at Veteran Village in Florence last night. Dad was born 9/28/1933 in Loris, SC to Jim and Dorothy Cox. He was 90 years old at his passing. Dad's early childhood years were challenging. Grandma Dorothy was only 16 years old at the time of his birth. She and Grandaddy Jim were both tenant farm hands during the peak of the great depression. In 1944 Granddaddy Jim was shot and killed in a hunting accident. Dad was 11 years old at the time, the oldest of 3 children. This tragedy forced Dad to quit school in order to help provide for the family. With his mother's permission, Dad fibbed about his age and joined the US ARMY. He was only 16 years old when he enlisted. He was assigned to the Signal Corp where he served 3 years during the Korean War. After his discharge and with only limited education and GI bill benefits dad went on to complete his education and become an Electronic Technician. He and our mother opened Cox Radio & TV repair in NMB. Dad was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish and camp. He took great pleasure in introducing young people to the abundant natural opportunities along the Waccamaw River, particularly his three boys. He was an extraordinarily good bowler, tomato gardener, bream fisherman, and camp cook. He will be greatly missed. He leaves behind three sons, Randy (Lori), Bryon (Paula), Steve (Christy), six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a sister, JoAnn Strickland, two nieces, one nephew, and his Labrador retriever Coco. Services will be announced at a later date. Thank you for your prayers and support of our family. Randy, Bryon and Steve Cox.
The family will receive guests at 1PM on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the Waccamaw River boat landing at the end of Starbluff road. Pastor Tyler Canes to officiate.
