James “Dale” DeLancey born in Philipsburg, PA: US Army (Veteran) departed this station for final PCS (permanent change of station) on April 17, 2024, change due to ETS (Expiration of Term of Service). Member is instructed to report to Commander Final Duty Station immediately upon arrival. No Travel Time or PCS funds are authorized. Member was issued to George and Maxine DeLancey on November 16, 1938. Initial training accomplished at Keene High School and some college at Keene State College on the GI Bill. Member entered AD (Active Duty) July 1957 and relieved from AD April 1960. Upon completion of Basic Training at Fort Bragg, NC, member was selected to attend aviation school at Fort Rucker, AL where he became a helicopter mechanic and eventually crew chief. Foreign service included a tour of service in Germany with 246th Trans CO APO 178 at the rank of SP4(T)/E-4. Once leaving the Army, Dale had a varied career path from selling DeSoto cars, working in a music shop, manager at Bell Telephone, selling airplanes, school bus mechanic/driver, advertising manager for Northeast Electronics, limo/bus driver to NY airports. He was a property manager for 20 years at Ocean Creek Resort, Myrtle Beach, SC at the time of his medical retirement.
His civilian pastimes were NASCAR, cooking, reading, tinkering with anything mechanical and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved spending time in his “Man Cave” aka garage, hanging out with friends and family sharing stories and possibly some tall tales.
Dale was preceded in death by his father, George B. DeLancey; mother, Maxine Shannon DeLancey and brother, Richard W. DeLancey. Member departed this station leaving his wife, Constance “Connie” V. DeLancey of 64 years; daughters, Alicia DeLancey (Vince Bouchard), Somerville, TN; Meredith Brouillard (Ron), Charlotte, NC; Julie Wilson (Chris), Royse City, TX; brother John DeLancey (Jan), Bedford, TX; sister Maryann Robator (Lee), Acton, ME. Seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Many treasured nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, May 11, 2024, 10am at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory,11840 Highway 90, Little River, SC. Celebration of Life to follow at the DeLancey residence, 2528 Brick Drive, Longs, SC. Remembrances to the American Lung Cancer Society, Charleston, SC.
