He later pursued a career as a bookkeeper with the railroad before joining his brother, Layman, as a government-contracted painter. Gene's journey led him to a distinguished 31-year tenure with the US government at Ft. Belvoir, VA, where he served his country with dedication and professionalism.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Gene was an avid golfer and he took great pleasure in coaching Babe Ruth baseball for many years, always cheering on and supporting his children in their athletic endeavors. In 2001, Gene retired and relocated to Little River, SC, embracing a well-deserved chapter of relaxation and enjoyment. Gene was a man of faith and a member of the Beach Assembly of God Church in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. He found solace and strength in prayer and the study of his beloved Bible.
Gene's legacy lives on through his cherished family. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce L. Sprouse, and their three children: Theresa (Saltz) O'Quinn of Fredericksburg, VA; Michael Saltz of Westminster, MD; and Stephanie (Saltz) Molden of Newtown, PA.
