Edna Horner, 91, passed away on December 29, 2022. Edna was born on February 20, 1931 in Mt Vernon, NY. Edna grew up in North White Plains, NY and eventually moved to Ossining, NY with her late husband, Thomas Horner. She worked with the Westchester County Court System in White Plains, NY.
Edna created an active full life, taking care of her mother and helping others, traveling and making friends of all ages. She was a member of The Senior Activity Group in Chappaqua, NY. She loved parties at the senior center and was always ready to help. Edna was actively involved in the monthly intergenerational program at The Hawthorne Cedar Knolls school in Hawthorne, NY with the young adolescent boys. She shared her home around Halloween to enjoy her yard filled with decorations, bobbing for apples, playing games and eating homemade cake.
Edna worked for years on senior trips, that included traveling to New Orleans, Hilton Head, and also assisted in day trips to Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York City, Long Island, NY and many more places. She was known for holding up a butterfly as seniors would follow her on the dozens of tours taken. She always had a smile on her face and she shared her infectious laugh wherever she was. She loved to help and participate in all activities and special events at the center.
Edna had a love for animals and took in many cats over the years. She was also an avid gardener and was well known for the many plants she took care of.
She and her companion Thomas Donovan, of Brewster NY, moved to Little River, South Carolina and shared many happy years together until his passing in 2014.
She is survived by her son Thomas (Marianne) Horner, 5 grandchildren, Marni Horner, Michelle Horner, Marissa (Mark) Petrucci, Thomas Horner and Anthony Horner, and 3 great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, Fredrick and Helen Vosatka, her brother, Fredrick Vosatka and her husband, Thomas Horner.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, North Myrtle Beach Animal Shelter or The Salvation Army.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm on Friday, January 6, 2023 in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation.
