As a wife, mother, grandmother, dedicated Catholic, lover of Siamese cats, collector of cows, and accomplished wordsmith, Donna leaves behind a loving legacy and a few metric tons of confetti thoughtfully distributed throughout the world.
Donna’s story began in Riverside, New Jersey, where she was born to her parents, James Wynn and Louise Thomas, on October 6, 1946. She grew up with her big brother, Dave Thomas, in Palmyra, New Jersey, where she attended Palmyra High School and went on to study fashion design at the University of Delaware. Post-degree, she pursued punctuation over pin cushion, and she propelled her professional path with a proofreading position in Philadelphia, PA.
Donna spent her career as a writer, leading her own business, Wells Design & Communications, Inc., since 1997. Her far-reaching skill set extended from corporate communications to conceptual copywriting—all with exceptional reverence for grammar and accuracy. From menus to manuscripts, no typo was ever safe in her presence.
Throughout her career, she edited publications and supported continuing education within the veterinary medicine industry, receiving honors for her many years of dedication to the Western Veterinary Conference. She also received recognition for her years of service as a Rotarian, writer, and editor for the Longwood Rotary Club, which named her as a Paul Harris Fellow for her “Service above Self.”
In her personal life, she enjoyed the art of calligraphy, the vocal virtuosity of the Siamese cat, the markings of Belted Galloways (aka “cookie cows”), and the power of the pen (and multi-colored markers) to brighten someone’s day. She moved to Conway in 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed living near the beach amidst her South Carolina community of friends.
As a woman of deep faith, Donna was a dedicated parishioner at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, where she was a frequent volunteer and was recently appointed as President of the Columbiettes, a Catholic women’s organization affiliated with the Knights of Columbus.
Donna shared nearly 29 years of happy marriage with her beloved husband, Thomas Wells, who passed in 2018. She is survived by three loving children, Tara (Scott), Jessica (Joshua), Tom Jr (Lindsey), as well as eight much-loved grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 24, 11am, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach with the Rev. Cosmus M. Wambua as celebrant.
For those who wish to make memorial donations, suggestions include the Father Cosmus clean water project at WorldServe International, Grand Strand Humane Society, Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania, Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, or a charity of choice.
