David Franklin Phillips, Sr., age 82, of Little River, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 7, 1942, he was a son of the late William Franklin Phillips and Viola Byrum Phillips.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 60 years, Mary Wylene Lancaster Phillips; sons, William Jeffery Phillips, David “Buddy” Franklin Phillips, Jr., Donald Christopher Phillips, Timothy Mark Phillips; daughter, Michelle Phillips Fleming; sister, Patricia Ann Cope; along with 26 beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents along with his son, Michael William Phillips; brother, Gerald Thomas Phillips; sister, Olivia Maria Nixon.
A devout Christian, David was an active member of Beach Assembly of God Church in Ocean Isle Beach. He enjoyed any task that involved tinkering or repairing something. David was skilled at working on cars. He especially enjoyed building racecars. In his earlier years, David loved fishing and being out on the water. He was also a proud retired veteran of 20 years in the United States Army where he served in Vietnam and Korea. With a giving heart, David was always willing to lend anyone in need a helping hand. David will forever be remembered as a loving and admirable husband, father, grandfather and friend.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Beach Assembly of God, 20 Bliss Rd. NW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens, 65 SC-90, Little River, SC 29566.
