Barry Michael Brown, age 80, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021. Barry was born in Malone, New York on September 21, 1940 and lived with his parents and sisters on the family farm in Churubusco, New York.
In 1960, he moved to Baltimore Maryland. In Baltimore, he worked for the United States Social Security Administration where he met Kathleen Dodge. Barry Brown and Kathy Dodge were married on May 4, 1963 at Saint Rose of Lima Church in Brooklyn, Maryland. Barry and Kathleen raised their family of four children in Woodlawn, Maryland.
Barry Brown worked for the U.S. Social Security Administration for 35 years and retired in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with his wife Patricia Godwin Brown. Barry developed many friendships over his life in upstate New York, Baltimore, and North Myrtle Beach. He was a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Colts, Baltimore Ravens, and all things Baltimore, although, North Myrtle Beach became his true home. Many who live there knew Barry as the honorary mayor of North Myrtle Beach. He will be remembered very fondly by so many. It would be hard to name them all.
Barry’s children have fond memories of attending sporting events with him in Baltimore, as well as, long weeks in the summer at the family farm in Churubusco. Barry’s children and their families have enjoyed many vacations with Barry in North Myrtle Beach sharing his love of the beach, surf fishing and local amusements.
Barry was preceded in death by his father, John Ryan Brown, his mother, Mary Catherine Brown and his wife, Patricia Godwin Brown.
Barry is survived by his four loving children:
Heather Ann Scarlatelli, Kevin Barry Brown and his wife Angela, Brendan Ryan Brown and his wife Marcella, Mary Ann Simmons and her husband Edward, and their mother Kathleen Brown.
Barry is survived by his loving Grandchildren:
Alison Wright and her husband Mason, Emily Demeritt and her husband James, Ethan Fisher, Melanie Bishop, Abigail Stevens and her husband Eric, Ryan Brown and his wife Brianna, Philip Brown and Colin Simmons.
Barry is survived by his loving Great-Grandchildren:
Clara Wright, Felix Wright, Louis Stevens, Ava Stevens, Cora Stevens, Liam Brown and Sydney Brown.
Barry is also survived by his sisters Carol Black-Harrell and Virginia McCauley and her daughter Kate.
Barry’s family will be receiving guests at Flynn’s Irish Tavern, 421 Main Street North Myrtle Beach SC 29582 on Saturday September 4th for a memorial of life celebration from 1 PM to 3 PM.
A second memorial is being planned in the Baltimore area for Barry’s family and friends there.
