A beautiful nine-year love story sadly curtailed, Anthony was to marry the love his life, Mary Peters on July 11, 2021. He was an elegant man yet learned through last decade to appreciate the simple joys of the world. Never having any children of his own, he was a Godfather to many and his time spent with Mary, and her family gave him much joy and happiness. Being “Poppy” to four precious grandchildren blessed his life richly and the memories they made will forever be cherished.
An avid New York Yankee fan, Anthony enjoyed the playful banter between himself and Mary since she pulls for the Mets! Anthony retired as a supervisor from General Motors after numerous years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, he and Mary moved to Conway from New York in 2014. Upon their relocation to South Carolina, Anthony began working with Coastal Carolina University in transportation and completed his career driving part-time for Academy of Hope School.
Surviving in addition to his fiancé Mary, are his brothers, Charles (Debbie) Arena, John (Laura) Arena, Joseph (Annette) Arena; step-children, Krista Peters, Johnnie (Lauren) Peters, Matt (Samantha) Zapia, Jaclyn Peters; four grandchildren, A.J., Hunter, Penelope, and Echo. Four nephews; one niece and numerous cousins also survive him.
Anthony had a great love and adoration for animals and he also leaves behind three four legged canine companions, Stanley, Elsa, Bailey as well as, a feline companion, Simon.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory, 11840 Highway 90, Little River, SC from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
