Andrew “Andy” William Carr, 87, of Yonkers, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Andy lived a full and joyful life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Andy was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lucille “Lue” Carr, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage for 56 years. In 1996, Andy and Lue relocated to Little River, SC, where they built a life filled with sunshine, community, and new adventures. Together, they enjoyed countless days on the water, as Andy’s love for boating brought him peace and joy.
He is survived by his three children: Luann Nappi, Lori Hanzl and her husband Frank Hanzl, and Drew Carr and his wife Wendy Carr. Andy’s greatest pride was his family, which grew to include five grandchildren: Lauren Lindenmulder and her husband Nick, Nick Nappi, Justin Hanzl and his fiancée Deanna, Alyssa Hanzl and her fiancée Michael, and Bennett Carr. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren—Emma, Gabriella, and Dylan—who brought light into his life and endless smiles to his face.
Andy was an active and passionate member of the Elks Lodge in Calabash, NC, where he was involved for 28 years. His commitment to the Lodge went beyond camaraderie—he found joy in being an integral part of bingo but he wasn’t “Mr. Bingo”, sharing laughs with friends and giving back to the community.
A lifelong lover of Disney, Andy’s happiest moments were spent visiting the parks with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than experiencing the magic of Disney through their eyes, from riding attractions to watching fireworks together. These family trips created countless memories that will be treasured by all who loved him.
Andy proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1956 to 1958, stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. His sense of duty and loyalty carried over into all aspects of his life.
Andy’s family would like to thank McLeod Health System especially McLeod Hospice for their compassionate and superior care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McLeod Hospice in his memory.
Andy will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His love, humor, and adventurous spirit will remain forever in our hearts. May he rest in peace alongside his beloved Lue.
