Allen Richard Rundall, age 91, of Sunset Beach, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Born on September 3, 1932, in New Milford, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Richard and Maude Rundall.
A longtime resident of Pawling, New York, Allen and his wife June decided to build a home and move to Sunset Beach in 2008 to enjoy retirement on the Carolina Coast. During his time back in New York, Allen was well known by everyone in the Pawling village where he worked in various capacities. Allen served as a village official, a police officer and was with the Pawling Fire Department as a firefighter and rescue squad member. After relocating to North Carolina, Allen joined the Sunset Beach Fire Department, which totaled 60 years of volunteer firefighter service. Allen was a member of St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church in Shallotte, North Carolina.
Allen was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He joined the Army in 1953 and served on the front lines in the Korean War. Allen was a very active member of the VFW Post 10804 serving as Post Commander. Also, he was a District Commander and the State Chairman for Veterans and Military Support. He chaired the annual 9-11 Golf Tournament for six years. He was personally responsible for raising thousands of dollars for relief through Buddy Poppies. He was also a state official and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, as well as a 33rd Degree Mason.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 23 years, June Rundall; children, Joann Miller, Jeffery Rundall (Kris), Jeannie Jobs; step-children, Lisa Riley, Amy Pulver; sister, Marlene Muckerman; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, along with his daughter, Joyce Robinson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. The Rundall family invites everyone to join them for a luncheon at the VFW Post 10804 on November 8, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
