Alan Brakstad

He is survived by his loving wife Ginny of 53 years and his three children, Jeanine (Pete), Steven (Shannon), and Kevin (Sarah). Ginny and Al have seven wonderful grandchildren, Anthony, Austin, Owen, Jonathan, Ryan, Ella and Benjamin. Al always enjoyed spending time with them, watching their sporting events and hearing about their many accomplishments. He was a very proud grandfather. He also leaves behind his sister Carol; brothers-in-law, Bobby, Ken, Hank; sister-in-law, Vicki; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Al was born on September 4, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York to Henry and May Brakstad. After attending Luther College in Iowa, Al was proud to have served in the Army from 1969 to 1971. He returned to New York after his service where he was a teacher for 30 years. Al and Ginny lived with their children in Massapequa, Long Island for 28 years, until his retirement in 2001. There they made many memories and lifelong friends.

Al’s love of golf and Ginny’s love of warm weather, brought them to Tidewater where they began their retirement with several members of their “Good Guy” family. He made so many wonderful friends when they moved to Tidewater. He loved being a part of such an amazing community. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed taking his family and friends to show off the golf course.

Some of Al’s favorite things were golf, the NY Giants and going on cruises with his family and friends. Most of all, he loved his family. He will be forever in our hearts.
